Gifting Rules to Family

A “Gift” as defined by the IRS is “any transfer to an individual, either directly or indirectly, where full consideration is not received in return.” A Gift Tax is a tax on money or property that one person gives to another. The key is that most Gifts are not subject to taxation, but there are limits, which is why legal counsel is recommended.
